Each of the groups
identified below has expressed an interest in developing a
major, world-class casino in our state if its petition for
federal tribal recognition is approved. Each group has major
financial backers supporting their acknowledgement petitions.
Bridgeport
The Golden Hill Paugussett group has entered into an agreement
with Bridgeport to build a casino there.
Northeastern
Connecticut
Although located in Massachusetts, the Nipmuc group has
made claim to lands in northeast Connecticut and
has expressed an interest in locating a casino there.
Southeastern
Connecticut
The Eastern Pequot and Paucatuck Eastern Pequot groups have
expressed their intention to build a casino in southeastern
Connecticut; however the financial backer/developer
is from Fairfield County and has indicated they will
go where a local government wants a casino.
Southwestern/Western
Connecticut
The Schaghticoke Tribal Nation has expressed its intent
to build a casino in southwestern or western Connecticut,
including Bridgeport and Danbury.
