Grassroots works! Through the efforts of the business, civic, religious, and grassroots organizations, legislators, municipal officials, and individual citizens who make up the Connecticut Alliance Against Casino Expansion, legislation benefiting casinos has been repealed, revised, and withdrawn. Your knowledge, willingness to get involved, and tenacity have made an impact. Our strength is in YOU. THANK YOU!

Our victories since the formation of The Alliance in October 2002:

October 2005 - The Schaighticoke and Historic Eastern Pequot Decisions were vacated and remanded today. This decision will ensure that the Schaghticoke and Eastern Pequot tribes cannot build casinos in Connecticut.

May 2004 - Jeff Benedict testifies before the House Government Reform Committee on Transparency in BIA Acknowledgement.

May 2003 - U.S. Congressman Rob Simmons bowed from pressure from the Connecticut Alliance, withdrawing an application for a $76 million four-lane bypass to connect Interstate-395 directly to Foxwoods Casino.

April 2003 - Relying on its database of supporters the Connecticut Alliance launched a campaign to to defeat a House bill legalizing the games of chance at high-school post-graduation parties. If passed by the Senate, the bill threatened to undermine the Las Vegas Nights repeal. As a result of these efforts the Senate struck down the House bill and the legislation failed.

January 2003 - Against a backdrop of pro-casino lobbyists inside the capitol, the legislature voted overwhelmingly to repeal Las Vegas Nights. Governor Rowland signed the Bill immediately.

December 2002 - The Alliance calls on the legislature to take up the repeal of Las Vegas Nights in an effort to stop the impending casino project in Bridgeport and others in Union and Danbury. In an email and petition campaign The Alliance gains support and thousand of emails and postcards are mailed to the capitol while editorial pages across Connecticut demand a repeal.

September / October 2002 - The Connecticut Alliance Against Casino Expansion secures over $75,000 in funding and attracts a board from across the state. During the first two months The Alliance holds forums throughout Connecticut to raise awareness and attract supporters.
